What to Do When You Feel Taken for Granted

What to Do When You Feel Taken for Granted

Written by Chris Josh

You do a lot for people - you show up, you help them, and you remember the little things.

And then somewhere along the way, what you do for people stopped getting noticed.

All of a sudden, no one says thank you anymore. They just expect you to do things for them.

That hurts and it definitely doesn't feel right.

Here's what to do...

Say something.

People get comfortable and stop seeing what you do. Tell them plainly. "I need you to notice what I do for you." You'd be surprised how many people had no idea.

Of course, you wouldn't do this every time you do something for them - just when you feel under appreciated.

Stop over-giving for a little bit. Not to punish anyone - but just pull back to what's fair.

When you stop filling every gap, people finally feel the space you were filling. They'll start to notice very quickly that you're no longer giving the same level of energy.

Give some of that energy to yourself instead. All that care you pour out? Point a little of it inward. You deserve your own kindness too!

You're not invisible. You just got used to being the one who gives.

That can change starting today.
