Your phone's in your hand. Their name is right there.
You might miss them and you may want to reach out. Is your thumb already scrolling your phone, looking at their contact?
Wait. Do these three things first before sending that text.
First off, let's put the phone down for ten minutes. Just ten minutes.
The urge to text might feel humungous right now, but it fades after a while.
Give it a little time before you do something you can't undo. Just really think about it for a minute.
And second, remember why you stopped communicating with them in the first place.
You didn't walk away for no reason. Play the whole tape, not just the good parts. Remember how it really felt.
Weight out the pros and cons.
Third, text someone who's good for you instead - a friend or a family member. Pick anyone who builds you up.
Get that connection you desire from someone healthy for you.
Missing them is normal - but don't let the urge decide for you. Rationalize it out first.
You get to choose either way. Just choose on purpose, not on impulse. That's all I'm saying.
Put the phone down first. Then decide with a clear head.
And remember, these emotions are all normal and they eventually fade away.
